Be careful what you wish for,
Everyone wants an alternative to gasoline right now. If we get such a thing tomorrow how will it impact us? One thing a lot of people consider is how much happier they would be if we had such an alternative. But upon receiving a replacement to gasoline, the current price of gasoline would drop and a lot of people would forget about the new technology and go with the cheaper price of gasoline. Then what happens to the new technology? Will it be able to compete with the gasoline prices once they drop? Just a thought.
